Arytenoid dislocation after uneventful endotracheal intubation

چکیده
ryngeal morbidity, such as hoarseness, submucosal hemorrhage, subglottic edema, laryngitis, and arytenoid cartilage dislocation [1,2]. Among others, hoarseness is reported as the most common laryngeal morbidity after general anesthesia, with widely varying incidence from 16% to 55% [3]. However, it is generally resolved within a few days, unless accompanied by serious complications, such as arytenoid dislocation [3]. The arytenoid cartilages are a pair of small 3-sided pyramids that form part of the larynx, to which the vocal cords are attached. Arytenoid dislocation is an unusual complication after external trauma or endotracheal intubation; its incidence is < 0.1% when associated with intubation [4]. Iatrogenic arytenoid dislocation is occasionally reported in cases with difficult intubation, double lumen endotracheal tube intubation, or intubation with a stylet [5,6]. However, we experienced a case of arytenoid dislocation despite easy and uneventful intubation. Therefore, we reported this case along with a review of related literature.

Arytenoid dislocation related to an uneventful endotracheal intubation: a case report
INTRODUCTION Invasive methods currently applied to the respiratory tract may result in impaired movement of the cricoarytenoid joint with hoarseness and immobility of the vocal ligament. Hoarseness after tracheal intubation is reported as a high incidence in patients who receive general anaesthesia. In most cases, the symptoms are temporary and improve within several days. We report this case f...
متن کاملAnterior arytenoid cartilage dislocation, a rare complication of esophagogastroduodenoscopy.
Arytenoid cartilage dislocation is a rare complication after tracheal intubation, occurring in less than 0.1% of cases [1, 2]. Here we present a case of arytenoid cartilage dislocation following esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). A man in his sixties underwent EGD as a follow-up examination after endoscopic treatment for early gastric cancer. The examination was carried out with a standard endos...
متن کاملCardiovascular Operation: A Significant Risk Factor of Arytenoid Cartilage Dislocation/Subluxation after Anesthesia
BACKGROUND Arytenoid cartilage dislocation/subluxation is one of the rare complications following tracheal intubation, and there have been no reports about risk factors leading this complication. From our clinical experience, we have an impression that patients undergoing cardiovascular operations tend to be associated with this complication. AIMS We designed a large retrospective study to re...
متن کاملArytenoid cartilage dislocation: a 20-year experience.
SUMMARY Arytenoid cartilage dislocation is an infrequently diagnosed cause of vocal fold immobility. Seventy-four cases have been reported in the literature to date. Intubation is the most common origin, followed by external laryngeal trauma. Decreased volume and breathiness are the most common presenting symptoms. We report on 63 patients with arytenoid cartilage dislocation treated by the sen...
متن کاملArytenoid cartilage dislocation after reversed total shoulder replacement surgery in the beach chair position: a case report
Arytenoid cartilage dislocation is not a common complication, but its delayed diagnosis reduces the therapeutic effect of treatment. A male patient underwent reversed total shoulder replacement surgery in the beach chair position under general anesthesia. The patient experienced postoperative hoarseness, and it was revealed that he had right arytenoid dislocation. Voice restoration was accompli...
